The Principal Annual Sale of 4,500 Cheviot Mule Ewe Lambs and Gimmer
Shearlings was held at Longtown on Tuesday
23rd August 2011.
A massive ringside of buyers from all
across the UK ensured a buoyant trade for all classes throughout
with an increased entry and larger quantity forward for sale.
The 1,490 Cheviot Mule Shearlings forward topped at £205
from G.B. Milroy, Mains of Machermore, Newton Stewart and averaged £143.72,
a rise of £26.72 on the year.

North Country Cheviot Mule Ewe Lambs sold to a
top of £162 from Messrs Aynsley, Wardhill
The 1,980 North Country Cheviot Mule Ewe Lambs met
a flying trade and sold to a top of £162 from Messrs Aynsley,
Wardhill, Morpeth and averaged £122.79, a rise of £25.79
on the year.

Gospel Hall, Overacre and Kingside, £148 Overacre, £142
Gospel Hall, Kingside and Wardhill.
Messrs Hedley, Overacre sold 200 head and averaged £139.
Messrs Cockburn, Kingside sold 70 head and averaged £138.90.
Messrs Aynsley, Wardhill sold 469 head and averaged £130.09.
Messrs King, Gospel Hall sold 339 head and averaged £129.76.
The 585 Hill Cheviot Mule Ewe Lambs sold to a top of £130
from Messrs Common, Crossdykes and averaged £103.36, a rise
of £38.28 on the year.
Also included were 450 Suffolk and Texel x
Cheviot Mule Ewe Lambs which sold to £138 for Texel Cheviots from Messrs Dun, Gilston
and £130 for Texel x from Wester Ulston Sheep, Upper Hunderlee.

The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart also had forward 3,350
Store Lambs at their weekly sale.
Lambs were a very good show, several distant buyers present,
all classes dearer.
