The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. had forward
95 prime cattle, 19 young beef bulls and 29 otm cattle 5883 spring
lambs and 6,271 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown
on Thursday 7th December 2006.
It was the Christmas show for prime cattle and prime sheep which was kindly sponsored
by Jobsons Farm Health with special prizes donated by Messrs Nutrivet C.F.
Champion in the prime cattle section was this Limousin bullock
from W & W Faulder, Houghton House.

A very good entry of cattle were presented to the judge W. Kirkup,
Butcher, Longtown. An overall entry of 114 head were forward with
all classes meeting a slightly cheaper trade. The championship was
awarded to W & W Faulder, Houghton House for a Limousin bullock
weighing 515kg selling at 200p (£1030) and purchased by Messrs
Nattrass, Butchers, Carlisle. Reserve champion was a Charolais heifer
from J & N Blaylock & Son, Hallburn weighing 515 kg selling
at 164p purchased by Market Hall Meats, Carlisle.
The Galloway heifer judged Best Native breed from Messrs Noble,
Bewcastle Demense, (being held by mart drover Will Hoodless)

The prize for the best British beast was awarded to Messrs Noble,
Demense for their Galloway heifer weighing 510kg selling at 160p
and purchased by W. Kirkup. Butcher, Longtown.

Judge Mr. Adrian Roberts, Welsh Country Foods with Simon Bindlosss,
Shap Abbey and his championship winning Beltex cross lambs.

The annual prize show and sale of Prime Sheep had forward 720 show
sheep which were ably judged by Mr. Adrian Roberts of Welsh Country
Foods, Anglesey who took great deliberation before awarding the championship
to Messrs Bindloss, Shap Abbey for a pen of 20 Beltex x lambs scaling
46 kilos and later selling at £76 to the judge.
Reserve champions
were also Beltex x from R Hall & Son, Inglewood Edge, also weighing
46 kilos and selling at £69 to Woodhead Bros, Colne, with both
lots receiving the special prize from Messrs Nutrivet CF. The overall
quality seen at this years show was unprecedented at Longtown and
congratulations must go to all exhibitors.
