The Cumberland and Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. held
their annual sale of Cheviot Mule breeding sheep at Longtown on
Tuesday 23rd August 2005.
A record entry saw 2,600 head sell
to average £61.
The overall average was the same
as last year, but the top lots saw a significant increase with
North Country Cheviot Mules selling to £93 for a pen
of 30 from H. Cockburn & Co., Kingside selling to J. & A.
Pate & Partners, Torwoodlea Mains. Selling at £92
were pens from L. Forster & Son, West Nubbock to R. Batty,
Laithwaite Farm, Kendal, also at £92 were A. & A.B.
Graham, Barnglies to J. & A. Pate & Partners, Torwoodlea
Mains. Barnglies also sold at £89 with Kingside
at £87, Embley £78, Hownam Grange £77, Crawthat £74
and Terrona at £72 and £70.
An excellent entry of
Hill Cheviot Mules was topped at £72
from J. Laurie & Co., Carterton, bought by Messrs Iain Howatson
Farms, Heithat, Carterton also had four lots at £64. J.
Commons & Son, Crossdykes sold at £70 and £68,
other prices included Cowburn £66, Sundhope £65, Springwells £64,
Tushielaw £64, Singlie £64, Castlehill £62, Carlenrigg £62
and Westerkirk Mains £60.
